Dr. Katherine Barteck | Depth-Oriented Psychologist in Johnson City, TN

Depth. Continuity. Real Work.

For those who want to be genuinely known, not carefully managed.

If you've already tried to work through this on your own, or been in therapy before without things really changing, you're not starting from zero.

You know something's off. You may even understand why. What you haven't found yet is a relationship that can actually do something with that.

The Practice

Structured around what the work needs, not around what limits it

This work requires continuity. Longer sessions and a limited caseload make it possible to stay with what keeps returning, rather than managing it away.

I run sessions 75 to 90 minutes. I keep the caseload small by design. The work is out-of-network, and sessions are shaped by the clinical work itself, not by an insurance-driven session structure.

The structure isn't separate from the treatment. It's what makes the treatment possible.

I see clients in person in Johnson City, TN, including Kingsport, Bristol, and the Tri-Cities region, with telehealth available across 40+ states.

The Clinical Model

What keeps returning is the point

I'm listening for what keeps repeating: in symptoms, in relationships, in self-expectations, in how someone explains themselves, and in what happens between us in the room. The goal isn't to manage the surface more efficiently. It's to understand what keeps organizing the same difficulty in different forms.

Patterns that have been there for years are rarely understood in a session or two. They have to be noticed over time, in context, and often as they're actually showing up.

Who This Tends to Fit

People who are ready for more than management

The people who find their way to this practice are usually self-aware enough to know something deeper is driving what they're experiencing. They've often tried to think their way through it.

This tends to fit people who don't just want to be reassured. They want to be understood clearly enough that something true can become useful.

Not managed, soothed, or over-simplified. Someone looking for a relationship that can stay with what's actually there.

This is often a fit for people who can explain themselves well and are tired of therapy stopping there.

Who This Isn't For

My practice isn't designed for acute stabilization, brief skills-based treatment, or therapy organized primarily around rapid symptom reduction. Those approaches are genuinely valuable, but they're built differently.

Working With Dr. Barteck

Direct work. No handoffs.

I work directly with each client. The work isn't delegated, handed off, or organized through a rotating clinical team. The relationship is part of the treatment, which means continuity, attention, and fit matter from the beginning.

That relationship builds over time, and it's part of why I keep the caseload small.

The next step is a conversation

If what you've read here describes something you've been living with, the next step is a consultation. It's a 15-minute conversation with no commitment. You can ask what you need to ask, and I can get a sense of what's bringing you in. From there, we can decide whether it makes sense to go further.
